The general election 2005 - just the beginning...

9.25.28pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 20th May 2005

Liberal Democrats in North Thanet look back with some encouragement on the general election result. While still finishing third, candidate Mark Barnard increased the vote from 4603 to 6279 - and our share of of the vote from 11% to 14,4% - enough to be a useful springboard for next time, considering it was achieved on very limited manpower resources.

This is coupled with a respectable performance, especially in Herne Bay, in the KCC elections - and the Canterbury CC West Bay by-election.

Our candidates at all these levels are most appreciative of their levels of support; but keen to work with you to increase these for next time. With the momentum from a national campaign where we won much of the argument and strengthened our credibility as the real alternative, this we can achieve together.

With the next general election likely to be fought on different boundaries, we shall have to see what the real prospects for Lib Dems are. But victory - especially in a new constituency including some of our present one - is certainly not impossible.

Please contacts us at info@north-thanetlibdems.org.uk if you'd like to be involved. The campaign must start now.
